I see the way he’s hurting you

he’s turning you grey

draining all of your smiles right out through your eyes

and pouring them over your cheeks

I see the poison in the way he curls around you

too tight

grips your wrists

too hard

to pull you back in

just because your skin isn’t blue

doesn’t mean I can’t see the bruises

But you insist brightly

that you’re okay

and life is dripping silver love

despite the dread which has made itself at home in your veins

you’re painting petals to cover all his thorns

you never listen

And I have to watch with

such sad eyes

the way you clutch at something you still think is beautiful

and ignore the way it makes you bleed
